Traditional Learning Program (Face-to-Face)

Students can return to a traditional face-to-face school setting with the expectations/conditions outlined below.  Parents who choose to return their children to the traditional school setting will be required to sign a waiver that acknowledges their assumption of risk for doing so. 

The expectations/conditions for the traditional face-to-face option are the following:

  • Students and adults are expected to screen themselves each day for respiratory symptoms such as cough and shortness of breath prior to coming to school.  It will be strongly encouraged for students and adults to take their temperature daily before going to school. Anyone with a fever of 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit or higher should stay home and seek medical attention if needed. 
  • If a student becomes sick at school, he or she will be sent to the school nurse for evaluation and parents will be contacted to pick up their child immediately. Parents/guardians should make sure contact information on file is kept up-to-date, and notify the school in a timely manner of any changes.  If an employee becomes sick at work, he/she will be sent home.
  • All students and employees must stay home if they have COVID-19 symptoms, tested positive, or had known close contact with a person with COVID-19 within the last 14 days, and follow Georgia Department of Public Health guidelines before being able to return to school.
  • Schools will work with any student who must be quarantined to ensure they are able to continue to receive instruction and resources as appropriate. 
  • Face masks will not be required but will be strongly encouraged for those who are comfortable doing so.  Masks will be provided to staff if requested. 
  • Social distancing will not be required but will be strongly encouraged.
  • Students will be reminded of proper hygiene practices, including hand washing/sanitizing, and covering sneezes and coughs. Hand sanitizer will be provided by the district to be available throughout each school and classroom.
  • Prevention signs will be displayed throughout the school, including signs reminding students/adults of recommended healthy hygiene, how to prevent the spread of germs, how to identify COVID-19 symptoms, and when to stay home. 
  • Where feasible, rooms will be arranged with student desks facing the same direction and students seated at tables will sit on the same side.  In addition, desks and tables will be spaced out as feasible.
  • Students will eat breakfast and lunch on a rotating schedule in their classrooms or cafeteria in order to reduce the number of students in the cafeteria at one time.  Students who eat in the cafeteria will be seated on one side of the lunchroom table when feasible.
  • Recess will be allowed, but students will be encouraged to stay with their class when feasible.
  • Common touch-points in buildings will be cleaned/sanitized after each use when feasible. Bathrooms will be cleaned/sanitized daily.  Ventilation systems will be regularly monitored for proper operation.
  • Buses will be disinfected after each route.  Family members will be asked to sit together.  All other students will be encouraged to spread out as feasible.
  • Field trips will not be permitted, but some trips related to extracurricular activities may be allowed. 
  • Georgia High School Association guidelines will be followed for school athletics.  All other extracurricular activities will follow district guidelines.
  • A distance learning plan will be implemented in the event of a school closure. Students will be required to complete online graded assignments by the due dates.
