Pre-Kindergarten Program Registration
Pre-Kindergarten Registration for the 2017-18 school year is March 1 – 24. Only a child’s parent(s) or legal guardian(s) may register him/her for pre-k. You do not have to bring your child to registration.
Pre-Kindergarten registration is held each spring. Dates are advertised through schools, local media and all of our district's digital media platforms. Any questions regarding this process should be directed to the Board of Education at 212-8558 or 212-8560.
March 1-24, 2017 Pre-K Registration Packets Available
Pick up a registration packet at the Board of Education, one of our nine elementary schools, or one of our three high school sites during regular office hours. Children do not have to come to registration. A child must be four years old on or before September 1, 2017, to be enrolled in a Pre-Kindergarten class for the 2017-2018 school year.
March 1-24, 2017 Registration Period
Registration packets must be returned during regular school hours to the elementary school your child is zoned to attend. To be eligible for Pre-K lotteries, all registration packets and out-of-zone forms must be returned to the elementary school your are zoned for attendance by 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 24. We will place incomplete applications and those received after the deadline on our waiting list.
March 21, 2017 Evening Registration
If you are unable to pick up and return your packet to a school during the day, evening registration for all schools is March 21, from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., at the Bulloch County Board of Education, 150 Williams Road in Statesboro.
March 2017 (TBD) Pre-Kindergarten Lotteries
Our Georgia Pre-K program is limited to 416 students. A lottery is held for these slots from the list of registered Pre-K students. Lottery drawings are open to the public and will be held at various locations (see schedule below).
Required Documents for Pre-K Registration
To help you know the types of documentation that are required to register your child for pre-kindergarten, please refer to the Student Registration Checklist. Documentation is required to establish identity, residency, and proof of immunization.
These items must be presented at Pre-Kindergarten Registration.
Establish Identity –Parent/legal guardian registering the child must establish their identity by producing a valid driver’s license or a picture i.d. Legal parental/guardianship of the child is established by providing one (1) of the documents listed:
- Birth certificate – Must show name of parent(s)
- Magistrate court documents indicating custody
- Power-of-attorney documents (military or civilian)
- Letter of placement from the Department of Family & Children’s Services
- Custody documents.
Establish Residency - Residency must be established to enroll a student. The parent/guardian must produce one (1) of the acceptable forms of proof. These are examples of acceptable proof of residency documents (approved by Board of Education 2/11/16):
- current lease
- property tax notice
- homeowner’s insurance bill
- mortgage statement
- current vehicle registration form
- letter from shelter
- letter from employer if employer provides housing
- A utility bill (electricity, gas, water, or landline telephone) listing the residence as the service address
- current PeachCare eligibility documents for the child
A cell phone bill or a driver’s license is not an acceptable proof of residency.
Establish Proof of Immunization/Dental
All children attending a Georgia Pre-Kindergarten Program must have a Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH) Certificate of Vision, Hearing, Dental, and Nutrition Screening (Form 3300) and a DPH Certificate of Immunization (Form 3231). Form 3231 must have either the date of expiration or school attendance block checked. Children who attend Pre-K must be up-to-date on all immunizations required for school entry.
Children may register and begin attending before completion of these examinations and certificates. However, the immunization certificate must be on file within 30 calendar days and the Certificate of Vision, Hearing, Dental, and Nutrition Screening indicating that children have passed these screenings must be on file within 90 calendar days of the start of the Pre-K program. Any child who does not have a completed certificate within the 30- or 90-calendar day time frames may not return to the program until an updated certificate is provided and is on-site.
Child’s Social Security Card
According to Georgia Law 20-2-150d; An official copy of the student’s Social Security card/number is required for enrollment. However, no student may be denied enrollment for failing to provide his/her Social Security number. Any parent/legal guardian who objects to the incorporation of the Social Security number into the child’s school records may have the requirement waived by signing a statement objecting to the requirement. However, a Social Security Number will be required by the state for a student applying for the HOPE scholarship in the future.
