35th Annual Penny Sikes Math Tournament

The Penny Sikes Math Tournament is for fifth- and sixth-grade student teams who attend public, private, charter or homeschool associations in Bulloch County.  The tournament is organized and hosted by the Southeast Bulloch High School Math Department.  For more information about the tournament and to see practice questions for the event's written and ciphering tests, visit the tournament's webpage .  Teams may also contact Susan Boddiford sboddiford@bullochschools.org.

 

Awards are given to the 1st - 10th place individuals in the written test portion of the competition for both fifth grade and sixth grade.  For the Ciphering Team competition portion, awards are given to 1st - 3rd place teams for both grade levels.  There is also an award for the overall top three teams for both grades.

 

The tournament is sponsored by Farmers and Merchants Bank and Penny Sikes.  Their long-standing sponsorships allow students to compete for free. Other local businesses, Ken's IGA, South Georgia Sales, Coca Cola, Uncle Shug's and Chick Fil A donate food and coupons each year for the students and coaches.

 

Penny Sikes is a former Bulloch County Schools math teacher and administrator. She began the tournament in 1983, with an innovation grant from the school system.
