Move On When Ready

Move On When Ready (MOWR) is Georgia’s new dual enrollment program that allows high school students to earn college credit while working on their high school diploma. The program was signed into law on April 20, 2015, became effective July 1, 2015 (Fiscal Year 2016) and began serving students in fall 2015.

Bulloch County Schools has more than 500 students in the Move on When Ready program, who are either taking college courses on our high school campuses, courses at local post-secondary institutions or a combination of both. Georgia Southern University, East Georgia College and Ogeechee Technical College are actively engaged in partnering with our school system to serve students.

The new law streamlined the previous dual enrollment options (Move On When Ready, Accel and HOPE Grant) into one program with one funding source. By consolidating the programs into a single program, it is easier for students and parents to navigate and take advantage of the available options to enroll in college courses while still in high school.  MOWR includes provisions to help remove some of the financial barriers that may prevent students from participating in a dual enrollment program.

The new MOWR program is administered by the Georgia Student Finance Commission (GSFC). If your student has a Georgia Futures account, ALL of the important applications and documents for MOWR are available there. Our high schools also provide MOWR information to each eighth-grade student when they begin developing their individual graduation plan as required by O.C.G.A. 20-2-327.

High Schools and Home Study Programs Participation

In order to qualify as a MOWR participant all private and public high schools and home study programs within the state of Georgia who operate pursuant to O.C.G.A. §20-2-690(c) must execute a MOWR High School/Home Study Program Participation Agreement.  Bulloch County Schools has prepared the necessary documentation to allow our students full access to this program.
